"WE ARE ALL A WORK IN PROGRESS "

Dwayne ' The Rock' Johnson reported in a interview with times magazine the he has suffered with bouts of depression. His first bout was in his twenties but states

"One of the most important things that I know helped me with the multiple times that I had gone through my own episodes of depression, was making sure that I was talking to people."

What is depression? There are times when we all feel sad, hopeless or fed up; it’s part of life. Depression is different. With depression these feelings don’t just go away. They can last for months, becoming so intense that carrying on with everyday life can become impossible. Depression can be hard to spot. There are many different symptoms, some emotional and some physical. Studies suggest that identifying depression in the BME community, especial males comes with a range of barriers.

One being the stigma in some BME cultures regarding mental health, sterotypes regarding men, appropriate support available. The other is knowing what to look for, below are some of the signs:

  • 1. Sleeping to little or too much

  • 2. Pain (constipation, headache etc)

  • 3. Loss of Focus

  • 4. Anger

  • 5. Stress

  • 6. Substance Abuse

  • 7. Sexual Disfunction

If you feel you identify with approximately 2-3 of theses signs please talk to someone, friend, family or book GP apppointment.
